Celebrities React to Australia's Same Sex Marriage Vote
After a lengthy debate and a campaign against it, Australians voted overwhelmingly to make same sex marriage legal across the country.
According to the BBC, 61.6% of Australians voted in a non-binding poll to allow same-sex couples to get married, just as the Senate takes up a bill that would make that law. The country's prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, said the government aims to pass legislation in parliament by Christmas, the BBC reports.
“The people of Australia have spoken, and I intend to make their wish the law of the land by Christmas,” Turnbull said, according to the Washington Post. “This is an overwhelming call for marriage equality.”
The poll came after a the motion for a compulsory vote was rejected by the Senate.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, thousands of people gathered to hear the results of the poll, bursting into celebration as the results were announced on November 15. garter lingerie sets UK
